App Store Pricing

Becky Hansmeyer on pricing an app:

$5 should be the absolute rock bottom price for a quality indie app, full stop. So, for whoever might need to hear this: stop kidding yourself, you’re not going to make it up in volume, raise your dang prices, thank you and good night.

I wouldn’t class Text Case as some kind of massively featured app, but I recently rose the price of it from its initial price of $1 to $2 with the last 2.0 update. But now I’m starting to think I should up it to $3.

Just like yesterday, my girlfriend was just finishing a night shift this morning, so I had a morning to myself.

I started by preparing dinner in the slow cooker. It was a chilli con carne, and honestly took about 20 minutes.nits pretty easy.

Then in the morning I played some FIFA again, and also some Factorio, which I’ve been getting into again. While doing that, I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge. It was a good film!

Of course, it’s also the last day of the Premier League season. So although I couldn’t watch the Arsenal game (stupid broadcast rules), I listened to the game via the clubs matchday commentary. We won 3-1. It’s not exactly an amazing result though, as our focus is on winning the Europa League final!

After eating my delicious chilli con carne, I spent the evening doing laundry, organising my wardrobe, and playing more Factorio. A pretty good Sunday.

I’ve had a relatively quiet day today. Mainly because my girlfriend is in between two night shifts, so I was on my own for most of it.

In the morning I pretty much played Fifa, listened to music, and read some blogs.

In the afternoon I visited The Range, which is a homeware/garden store that’s opened in my town recently. I only went to see what their garden selection was like. It was reasonably big, however it’s mainly flowers, vegetables, and just small plants. I’m always on the lookout for bigger plants, and more interesting species that maybe you wouldn’t find at a common garden centre. Still, I picked up three new plants. Two Acers, an ‘Orange Dream’, and an Atropurpureum. And also a small Apple tree. It’s only about a metre at the moment, but it’s already about to flower.

After I got the plants in the garden where I wanted them, I relaxed a bit more, and then cooked dinner. I made a chicken katsu curry. It was from a kit though, so I can’t take the credit for it.

At about 8 pm, I went for a quick coffee with a friend again. And since I’ve been back I’ve just been doing some housework, and watching videos about gardening on YouTube!

After the work party last night, I decided that I’d work from home today. There was no way I could get up at 6:30 this morning and make my way in. So I got an extra bit of sleep, and somewhat worked as normal (I wasn’t fully recovered yet).

After I was officially finished for the day, I did manage to get in a bit of housework, and I could cook dinner for myself and my girlfriend. We had a curry with all the accompaniments!

In the evening, I popped out for a coffee at the beloved Starbucks.

Now, I’m watching Lucifer season 4. I’ve literally just watched three episodes back to back, and I’m guessing I’ll have to watch another two at least. I was starting to think that I’ll have to head up to bed soon. Then I realised three things, I’m an adult, I own my own house (well, with my girlfriend), and I have no work tomorrow. So I’m pretty sure I’m allowed to do whatever I want!

Iceland Is Growing New Forests for the First Time in 1,000 Years

As part of National Geographic’s Short Film Showcase, they released a short film about how forests are now starting to be grown in Iceland:

The landscape of Iceland has changed a lot in a thousand years. When the Vikings first arrived in the ninth century, the land was covered in 25 to 40 percent forest. Within a few centuries, almost all of the island’s trees were slashed and burned to make room for farming. This rapid deforestation has resulted in massive soil erosion that puts the island at risk for desertification.

Today, the Icelandic Forest Service has taken on the mammoth task of bringing back the woodlands. With the help of forestry societies and forest farmers, Iceland’s trees are slowly beginning to make a comeback.

It’s only a short video, around 5 minutes. But it’s fascinating to see the effect that farming has had on Iceland’s forests.

So today was the day of the work party. I went to work, and was delayed as usual.

But at 4:30 pm, the drinks fridge opened, and the party began.

We officially moved to the venue at around 6 pm, and I’m literally only just leaving at 11 pm. I had no intention of staying out this late. My original plan was to go for a couple of drinks, and then leave by about 8. That didn’t go so well.

So right now I have a bit of a headache, and now it’s time for the long commute home.

Work as usual today. Nothing spectacular to note, the trains were even still annoying.

I did manage to finish John Wick 2 in my lunch time though, which means I’m now ready for when the third movie comes out!

On the way home from work, I started watching another tv series! This time it’s Lucifer, that’s back for a 4th season. I don’t expect it will take me long to finish the entire thing.

Tonight, I watched part of the Ajax game, and ate dinner with my girlfriend. We also played a tv/movie quiz game, which I narrowly won! 🏆

Tomorrow I’m at a work party, so I just had to get some things ready for that. It may mean a very good or boring journal entry tomorrow.

This morning I was started my working week with a quick coffee with my cat. It seems to have gotten into a fairly regular routine, where when I get out of bed, he comes down with me for a short period of time, before going back upstairs to bed for a few hours.

I did eventually leave for work, and thanks to multiple issues with trains (including the theft of signalling cable), I was about an hour late.

After work, I went straight to my girlfriends parents with her for dinner. And we were there for the entire evening, watching various shows on TV. I also kept up with the Liverpool vs Barcelona game, which is a tremendous result for Liverpool!

I woke up relatively late this morning, around 10 am. I started the day with a nice coffee, and a game of Fifa. Followed by the usual social networking, and YouTube watching. Two things that I want to cut down on, or at least introduce a level of purpose to them.

During the afternoon, my girlfriend cooked us chicken fajitas for lunch. And I took the time to show off the plants that I’m growing on my Instagram. There’s not much right now, but that will change soon.

From around 2 pm until around 6pm, myself and my girlfriend were getting on with some DIY. Today we started the kitchen. We don’t want to radically change anything, just the wall colour, and the colour of the cabinets. So we sanded down, and filled any gaps in one of the main walls, so it is now ready for a first coat of white paint. That will be my next job.

In the evening, I cooked a chicken stir-fry, and afterwards I went out for a coffee.

To end the day, I’m now watching John Wick. I should finish before 12, and then I can get a good sleep before heading back to work tomorrow.

I started the day with a tiny bit of development on an app. I didn’t get very far though, as we did quite a lot of housework, so that took up a lot of time.

In the afternoon, we had some of my girlfriends family round. We then met more of them afterwards when we went out for a Sunday roast!

After we got back home, we had tea and coffee with some remaining chocolate from Easter. I also managed to make my girlfriend watch Lion King 2. Which, shockingly, she had never seen.

We then watched YouTube for quite a while afterwards, all relating to DIY, and small “hacks” you can do to make your home look better. That’s sort of decided our plan for tomorrow. I expect some kind of DIY will be done.
